Demonstration: Hinged box by Claude Godcharles

show

Claude demoed the hinged box. He turned the bottom and fitted the bottom part of the hinge. He finished with a pre-made top (to save time) which he had colored. We had a bonus demo on coloring (stain or paint then sand to show the grain).

President's Letter - Tom Gaston

Happy Holidays turners.

As another year comes to an end, I am grateful that we have weathered this difficult period. We started the year with having our meetings on line via the Zoom platform, and will finish with our in-person Holiday party.

We had our board election last month. The new officers are:
Claude Godcharles - President
Tom Gaston - Vice President
Jon Bishop - Treasurer
Roman Chernikov - Secretary
Member at Large to be appointed by the new board

The Holiday party will be held at Bridges Church, December 15, at 7 PM. We will open with social time, pot luck light snacks, desserts, and soft drinks/water/coffee. This will be followed by President's Challenge: holiday ornaments (again as there was only one entrant last month), Show and Tell, and then the gift exchange. For those who wish to participate in the gift exchange, bring a wrapped turning that you have made.

"As the Wood Turns" The Woodturning Culture - by Dave Vannier

One of my favorite meetings is coming up. The club December meeting is always a time to chat about a hobby with others that share the same interest. I picked up turning 20+ years ago, and learned that the turning world is very different from the world I had been working in. Here we are with people who develop new ideas and techniques, then freely share them with others, usually with enough detail that it is only our skill and expertise that prevent us from producing exciting pieces. Now, it shouldn’t be overlooked that mastering those skills is still a challenge. Watching others, asking questions, and the willingness of others to help has enriched my life. I’ve felt very blessed to have share my path with so many turners.

We also do a turning gift exchange. In my years of being a member, I’ve collected turnings from several members. So, for the meeting, do your best turning, and come home with the same from one of your fellow club members. Let's hope this Covid threat is settling down, and more of us are comfortable meeting in person.
