November 2019 - Christmas Ornament Bird Houses by Dennis Lillis

Dennis

Bird houses have a sweet look that make them perfect for ornaments... and...Dennis showed us how to do it. Round a piece of wood, shape it, hollow it, create a roof ridge line and you're done...almost. There are options of color, snow, hangers and birds to name a few.

A series of photos seen here shows more of how he did it

"As the Wood Turns" by Dave Vannier

One of my favorite meetings is happening in December. It is a chance to spend time with the many friends I’ve made since I joined WBW 19 years ago. Sadly it is also a reminder of the many fellow turners who are no longer with us. So many people have taken the time to help me learn, sharing the skills that they have honed. Listening to them always provides new inspiration. Thank you to everyone.

Beyond the good food and company, we also have the ornament raffle and turning exchange. Thanks to all the members who donate ornaments, we almost always raise enough money to pay for event. The turning exchange is an opportunity to collect other members work. Over the years I’ve collected quite a few. Do your best. Remember that people you don’t know will see the turnings. You want them to enjoy them.

So come early, help set up, enjoy the appetizers and the company.

Laura is donating some wood that will be free for the taking at the December meeting. Then in January, she is donating some wood that she wants you to buy with the money going to the club, a very generous offer.
